Lash and Brow Studios Boom Along Chicago's Andersonville Corridor

Eyelash extension and brow studios have opened at a rapid pace along Chicago's Andersonville corridor over the past two years, part of a broader regional trend of specialized beauty microservice businesses that focus narrowly on a single treatment category rather than offering a full salon menu.

At least five new lash and brow-focused studios have opened along Clark Street in Andersonville since last year, a concentration business owners attribute to relatively low startup costs compared with a full-service salon, combined with strong recurring revenue from clients who return every two to three weeks for lash fill appointments.

"You don't need nearly the same square footage or equipment investment as a hair salon, and the rebooking rate on lash clients is honestly better than almost any other beauty service I've worked in," said the owner of a lash studio that opened in Andersonville last year. "That combination is why you're seeing so many of these open in a small commercial strip like this one."

The studios have created new competitive dynamics along the corridor, with some owners reporting that increased competition has pushed pricing down slightly while others say demand has grown enough to absorb the additional studios without meaningfully affecting individual business volume. Several studio owners said they have differentiated through specialized techniques such as volume lash sets or lamination brow treatments to avoid competing purely on price.

Andersonville's dense, walkable retail strip has supported steady foot traffic for the studios, according to commercial real estate brokers who track the neighborhood, though some longtime business owners have questioned whether the current concentration of lash and brow studios is sustainable long term. Studio owners said they remain confident in continued demand given the recurring nature of the services they provide.
